Once again this year, HÆRVEJSMARCHEN are collaborating with Viborg Diocese to organise two pilgrimage walks of 10 and 20 km on Sunday. The Pilgrimage Walk has a special programme, including a morning service at Viborg Cathedral. 

HÆRVEJSMARCHEN’s Pilgrimage Walk is a hike at a calm pace, with time for reflection. We will walk at 3.5 km an hour with occasional stops, where we will be able to share a thought, a song and a word with each other. There will be stretches where we will walk in silence, providing fertile ground for individual contemplation.

The march starts and finishes at Kasernehallen (The Sports Hall), at Tingvej 17, Viborg. The routes go in an arc around Viborg, on part of Hærvejen’s old path. 

We will have a service at Viborg Cathedral from 08:30 to 09:00 before continuing along the routes. The pilgrim leaders will provide words to walk on, and we will sing along the way.

Everyone who completes a registered route and reaches the finishing line on Sunday before 18:00 will be provided with visible evidence of participation in the Pilgrimage Walk.

Pre-ordered start cards will be handed out between 07:00-08:00 at Kasernehallen (The Sports Hall), Tingvej 17, Viborg, which is just by the starting portal from where there will be a joint start at 08:00. The hike will begin with a service at Viborg Cathedral from 08:30 to 09:00.


Registration takes place online in the registration module, where you can order a one-day start card for Sunday, either 10 or 20 km. Tick the “Pilgrim” box, then you are automatically registered for the Pilgrim Walk. (If you register for a route on the Saturday, you will get a two-day medal included in the price.) You can also turn up on the day and receive help with registration.

The price covers the start card, a map of the route and access to toilets, Samaritan tents etc. along the route.

The Pilgrimshus inn, "Herberget" in Viborg

In the summer of 2017, Viborg Pilgrimshus inn, "Herberget", opened near Viborg Cathedral at the address Sct. Mogens Gade 18A, Viborg. If you register for the Pilgrimage Walk in the registration module on the website, you can choose to stay at Viborg Pilgrimshus overnight. It costs DKK 100 per night, and you have to bring your own bed linen.

Accommodation and meals

Via the registration module on HÆRVEJSMARCHEN’s website, you can also order primitive accommodation in the sports hall or the school, which are very close to the starting and finishing point.

When you register, you can also order breakfast and dinner, which are both served in a large tent on the Parade Square itself.

There are also resting places on the routes where you can buy water and so on, which are manned by voluntary associations, scouts, etc.

We can send you an Excel spreadsheet in which you can enter the key information we need to register the team's total number of start cards, and which we can then enter in the registration module. We can also agree on joint payment for the group.

You can also choose to register individually and walk by yourself, on a route of your own choice. There are no limitations here – you can choose to walk with some people you already know. You can of course follow the service in the cathedral here, too, and inspirational material will be handed out for the walk.

The starting and finishing line are on the Parade Square in Viborg Barracks. You can access it from Kasernehallen (The Sports Hall) at Tingvej 17, Viborg, where you can register and collect pre-ordered start cards and tickets for dining and accommodation.
